Assistant Operations Manager (Metal Scrap Industry)
Job Purpose
The Assistant Operations Manager will support day-to-day operational activities in the metal scrap division, ensuring efficient handling of scrap materials, compliance with safety standards, cost-effective operations, and smooth coordination between departments. The role involves supervising staff, monitoring workflows, and assisting the Operations Manager in achieving business goals.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Production
Assist in overseeing daily operations related to collection, sorting, processing, and dispatch of metal scrap.
Monitor and ensure smooth functioning of machinery, equipment, and tools used in scrap processing.
Coordinate with procurement and sales teams to maintain adequate scrap stock levels.
Support in planning and executing production schedules to meet customer requirements.
Monitor recycling efficiency, minimize waste, and reduce operational costs.
Staff Supervision & Coordination
Supervise operators, drivers, loaders, and laborers to ensure compliance with company policies.
Allocate tasks and monitor performance of the operations team.
Provide training, guidance, and support to workers for improved productivity and safety.
Act as a link between senior management and ground-level staff.
Health, Safety & Compliance
Ensure strict adherence to workplace health, safety, and environmental standards.
Conduct routine safety inspections and enforce use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
Report and investigate incidents, accidents, or equipment malfunctions.
Ensure compliance with local laws, environmental regulations, and scrap handling policies.
Logistics & Inventory Management
Assist in managing transportation, vehicle schedules, and driver assignments.
Oversee loading/unloading operations to prevent material loss or damage.
Maintain accurate records of scrap inventory, incoming/outgoing shipments, and production reports.
Support cost control by monitoring fuel, maintenance, and logistics expenses.
Administration & Reporting
Prepare daily/weekly operational performance reports for management.
Track KPIs such as scrap volume, processing capacity, delivery timelines, and staff efficiency.
Assist Operations Manager in budgeting, resource planning, and operational audits.
Coordinate with finance for billing, vendor payments, and cost tracking.
Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, or related field.
3–5 years of experience in operations, preferably in recycling, metal scrap, or heavy industry.
Strong knowledge of scrap material handling, recycling processes, and logistics.
Excellent leadership, communication, and team management skills.
Proficiency in MS Office and ERP systems.
Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational abilities.
