Firefighting Equipment Technician
Job Summary:
The Firefighting Equipment Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, testing, and repair of firefighting tools, gear, and safety equipment to ensure operational readiness and compliance with safety standards and regulations. This role supports the fire department or organization by ensuring all firefighting apparatus and safety systems are functioning properly.

Key Responsibilities:
• Inspect, test, and maintain firefighting equipment including hoses, nozzles, breathing apparatus (SCBA), fire extinguishers, hydrants, ladders, pumps, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Diagnose malfunctions and perform repairs or recommend replacements for defective parts and equipment.
• Calibrate and test equipment to ensure compliance with NFPA, OSHA, and local safety standards.
• Maintain detailed service records for inspections, repairs, and replacements.
• Install and upgrade fire protection systems, including fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems, and extinguishing systems.
• Ensure inventory control by tracking parts, tools, and materials needed for maintenance and repairs.
• Support emergency operations by being on-call to repair or replace damaged equipment during incidents, if necessary.
• Conduct training for personnel on the proper use and care of firefighting equipment.
• Work closely with firefighters, safety officers, and equipment vendors.

Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical certification in mechanics or a related field preferred.
• Certification or training in fire equipment inspection, SCBA maintenance, or fire extinguisher servicing (e.g., NFPA, NAFED) is a plus.
• 2+ years of experience in equipment maintenance, preferably in a fire service or emergency response setting.
• Strong understanding of firefighting tools, SCBA systems, and fire suppression technologies.
• Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and maintenance logs.
• Physical stamina to lift and move heavy equipment and work in various environmental conditions.
